Superhero Wedding Cakes- add some Fun to your Wedding!

Superhero Wedding Cakes can add a real fun element to your wedding- a nod to the Superhero in Your Life! Superman, Batman, Star Wars , your favourite Marvel character, or even a Harry Potter Themed Wedding- these details can be created on the rear of your cake, with the front view looking quite conventional. This can provide a great surprise for your guests when you reveal your wedding cake ‘Secret’ Details!!

There are lots of examples of recent themed wedding cakes we have made, each unique and really special to each couple who designed their cake with our guidance.

Star Wars Wedding Cake with Wookie Detail

This is a round Star Wars Wedding Cake in three tiers, with quilted patterning on the front of each tier- the surprise in round the back! We have created a 3D wookie detail on the bottom tier complete with two tone ‘hair’. Edible Robot Graphics on top and middle tiers.

Square Star Wars Wedding Cake with Cake Topper

This Square Star Wars Wedding Cake in Four Tiers features small piped heart details on the front and sides- so far, so conventional! The back is a different story-

all topped with a sugar-crafted Bride and Groom as Han Solo and Princess Leia and a 3 year old as Darth Vader! The Star Wars graphic is showcased on the second tier, in case there were any doubt of the inspiration for this ‘Half and Half’ wedding cake!

Round Marbled Wedding Cake with Star Wars Half and Half Details.

This Beautiful Grey Marbled Tall wedding cake has sugar-crafted peonies and trails of green foliage down all four tiers. The Star Wars elements are only revealed when the cake is turned around! Using high resolution scaled edible graphics and sugar-crafted ‘curtains’, all the details of storm-troopers, Darth Vader, C-3PO and the iconic Star Wars Logo are added at the back section of this wedding cake.

Batman Wedding Cakes- for the 'Bruce Wayne' in your life?

Batman Wedding Cakes- whether a full-on ‘Half and Half’ Wedding Cake, or a subtle detail, a Batman element can add a touch of excitement to your wedding! We can add a small sugar-crafted Batman Head, or a full Batman logo in sugar or high resolution edible printing.

Combined Batman and Harry Potter Themed Wedding Cake.

This unusual Wedding Cake features not One but Two Themes. The front is Harry Potter phrasing, ‘After all this time‘ and ‘…Always‘, with Gold Snitches (provided by the Bride and Groom) with elegant edible lace details.

The back of this unique wedding cake is decorated with black fondant, models of the Gotham City Skyline and a Batman Logo in scaled high resolution edible print.

Batman Half and Half Wedding Cake with Crystal Topper

This Batman Themed Wedding Cake in Four Tiers features elegant hand-piped heart details on the front faces. The back of the cake is coated in dark grey sugar-paste with the iconic Black Batman Logo in edible glitter finish. Each logo detail is placed on a white oval of white sugar-paste.

We have made a Crystal Drop Cake Topper for this cake and set the cake on a tall crystal cake base. There is a fine crystal ribbon around the base of each tier.

From the front, this cake looks totally elegant with no hint about what lies in secret at the back of this fun wedding cake!

Wedding Cakes with Subtle Batman Details

The Wedding Cakes above are more typical of traditional wedding cake styles, with the addition of a subtle Batman Detail. In one cake we created a single Batman Logo , a Black silhouette on a yellow background.

On the other wedding cake example, we have a beautiful cake with cascades of red roses and buds, with a small sugar-crafted Batman Head just to the side!

This sort of addition can be added a surprise for the Groom, who may see the surprise for the first time on the big day!

We are happy to add specific secret surprise details according to your wishes.

Wedding Cakes with Sugar-Crafted modelled Details

The cake above is a traditional three tier round wedding cake with edible lace motifs and wide diamante strips. However, the back of this cake is decorated with a large Captain America Head. (This was made for one of the children attending the wedding, as a lovely surprise from the Bride and Groom.) From the front, this cake looks totally elegant- no hint about what lies in secret at the back!!

This Harry Potter Themed Wedding Cake in Four Tiers features elegant hand-made wands and the Deathly Hallows Symbol hand-made in sugar. We also created the Always font by hand. Each tier of this cake had silver leaves around the base.

Wedding Cake at Trump Turnberry

We deliver and set up Wedding Cakes around Gretna Green, and surrounding areas of Dumfries and Galloway.

We recently had the pleasure of creating a beautiful wedding cake for Maria and Adam, at the newly revamped Trump Turnberry Hotel on the Ayrshire coast.

This was our first wedding cake for Turnberry since their recent refurbishment, so we were really looking forward to seeing the changes.

We were totally stunned to see the changes and the vast amount of improvements and enhancements to the decor!

As Maria and Adam’s cake was quite large and complex, Jenny and Tom decided to work on this cake at Turnberry together.

We received a warm welcome and great assistance from the concierge team at Turnberry, and set to work bringing in all the tiers, cake stand and our toolboxes.

We were working in the beautiful Crystal Ballroom, which has spectacular views over the coastline to Ailsa Craig and the Turnberry golf courses.

We assembled the tiers, and applied a few finishing touches to the cake- the finished result is shown below-

We were packing up and ready to head back to the bakery, when we noticed that a couple of the Turnberry chefs were admiring our handiwork!

We LOVED the spectacular chef’s table, which adjoins the main kitchen, where lucky diners can enjoy a seven course meal, while watching the Executive chef and his team putting their wonderful creations together…

The Finished Wedding Cake At Turnberry

This is the finale to our work at Turnberry- Maria and Adam cutting their beautiful lace and ruffle cake! We think it made a lovely centre-piece for that iconic ‘cutting the cake’ photo!

(The second and bottom tiers are decorated with fine sugar ruffles, and the third tier features delicate sugar blossoms in varying sizes. )

Wedding Cake Behind the Scenes Video- Crystal Waterfall Cake Construction

The video below show all the details of how we created a HUGE crystal waterfall wedding cake at jenny’s Cakes. This cake was delivered to the Radstone Hotel in South Lanarkshire in Scotland, before we relocated to Annan (near Gretna Green.)

We put together a time lapse video showing the steps involved in putting the spectacular wedding cake together. click below to see how we did it!

One of the most challenging tasks was packing and transporting the various tiers of the cake, getting them safely to the venue and then building all the tiers and the crystal stands in a secure way, ready for the Bride and Groom to make their entrance! (For such complex wedding cakes, we check the set-up cake in our bakery before packing, carefully checking for levels and stability before transporting the cake, removing (most of) the stress of final assembly at the venue!

The video above shows about 8 hours finishing work compressed into about 3 minutes!

This is the final stage in the long and complex process which begins with lining the various cake tins and baking each cake tier.

We then split and fill each tier of the cake, before coating in a thin layer of finest marzipan and then coating in a layer of sugar-paste.

Each cake is then stacked using heavy duty food-grade support tubes and rods.

The next stage is the cleaning and stringing thousands of Swaroski crystals on the two bespoke cake separators and the five tier cake itself!

Naked Wedding Cakes

Over the last few years, we at Jenny’s Cakes have made a lots of ‘Naked’ Wedding Cakes, designed to fit in with more relaxed rustic wedding themes.

Naked Wedding Cakes are typically stacked together, and usually decorated with seasonal berries such as strawberries, blackberries, blueberries, redcurrant bunches, kiwi fruit or even FIGS on occasion!

Sometimes, food-safe flowers or artificial flowers are also used- this is a great way to incorporate details from the bride’s bouquet, but please bear in mind Food Safety- some flowers are not safe for contact with food!

Naked Cakes are perfect if you do not like the more traditional wedding cakes (which are typically coated in sugar-paste.)

However, as your cake is not coated, we carefully schedule the delivery and set your cake up at your venue in the afternoon of your wedding, to minimise the risk of your cake drying out too much!

A semi-naked wedding cake is another great option, with a thin coating of butter-cream allowing the base sponge layers to show through.

You can incorporate hessian ribbons and even raffia trim into the cake decor, to complement your table centre-pieces and chair covers, so that the cake echoes the overall look of the wedding and provides an appropriate centre-piece for the all-important cutting the cake photos!

In this post we show some recent naked wedding cake photos, and also semi-naked wedding cake examples, to show you a few ideas of cakes to complement a country style wedding.

Sizes, number of tiers and cake decoration details can all be adjusted to suit individual tastes and differing scales of wedding, from small intimate family groups, up to larger marquee wedding parties. We can supply singe tier cakes all the way up to Five Tier Show-Stoppers!!

The cake photo above shows a Three Tier stacked naked wedding cake in Victoria Sponge, with butter-cream and raspberry conserve filling. This wedding cake is dressed with seasonal berries, displayed on a white barrel (shown at Dalduff Farm in Ayrshire.)

Naked Wedding Cake With Variety Of Finishes

The photo above shows a combination of finishes, smooth butter-cream on top and bottom tiers, and a Naked Red Velvet middle tier.
Displayed on a tall metal stand, and dressed with summer berries and a sprinkle of Icing Sugar!

A recent trend in rustic or country style wedding cakes is the ‘semi-naked’ wedding cake– Above is a photo of a four tier stacked semi-naked cake, displayed on a tree trunk slice. (Wedding Cake shown dressed with fresh flowers, all organic and food-safe- fresh blooms provided by Pyrus Botanicals. )

There are options available in choosing how to display your wedding cake. The cake above (gluten-free victoria sponge as it happens!) is arranged in separate tiers, on a tall metal cake stand. This gives your cake more height, and also gives the opportunity to add more decoration on the top of each of the tiers. In this cake, we have used piles of seasonal berries and some sprigs of gypsophilia.

Rustic Wedding Cakes

Over the last few years, we at Jenny’s Cakes have made a lots of Rustic Wedding Cakes, designed to fit in with more relaxed rustic wedding themes.

Our Rustic Wedding Cakes are usually stacked together, typically decorated with a butter-cream finish.

Sometimes, food-safe flowers or artificial flowers are also used- this is a great way to incorporate details from the bride’s bouquet. Fresh flowers can also be used as a cake topper. These are provided by your florist, and we can advise you or your florist about the best sizes of floral cake topper to use.

You can specify your preferred choice of ribbon- we can offer you lots of different types of ribbons (such as hessian ribbons) , satin or lace ribbons or even raffia trim into the cake decoration.

The idea of a rustic wedding cake is to complement the room or venue decor, for example your table centre-pieces, table runners and chair covers, so that the cake echoes the overall look of the wedding and provides an appropriate centre-piece for the all-important cutting the cake photos!

In this post we show some recent rustic wedding cake photos. We offer single tier cakes for smaller rustic weddings, up to four or even five tier cakes.

This wedding cake shows use of ridged butter-cream tiers with a naked cake top tier and custom cake topper (provided by the bride and groom) dressed with seasonal berries and silk roses, finished with a dusting of icing sugar!

Rustic Wedding Cake With Ridged Icing Finish

We had a number of very hot spells of weather in Scotland this summer, and several of our brides wanted a butter-cream finish but were concerned about the possible problems of the butter-cream decoration melting. The four tier cake shown below is a new idea from Jenny’s Cakes! It looks like a butter-cream finish, but is actually a specially formulated Royal Icing decor, so will not soften and smudge in the (unlikely) event of a Scottish summer heatwave!

This rustic wedding cake design has the country style appearance, but will withstand 30 degrees plus! This example is decorated with rings of fresh gypsophilia and a ‘gyp’ cake topper.

A recent trend in rustic or country style wedding cakes is the ‘semi-naked’ wedding cake– Above is a photo of a three tier stacked semi-naked cake, displayed on a tree trunk slice. (Cake topper provided by the bride and groom.) This cake will be dressed with fresh flowers, photo to follow!

The photo above shows a deep three tier butter-cream wedding cake with raffia bows and sugar-crafted gerberas, displayed on a slate base (supplied by our clients.)

Royal Wedding Cake- Prince Harry and Meghan (Duchess of Sussex!)

The Royal Wedding Cake for Harry and Meghan- Our Suggestions.

Over the last few years, some of our brides and grooms have been looking for a cake to match in with a more relaxed or rustic wedding mood, most recently inspired by the wedding of Prince Harry to Meghan Markle.

The recent royal wedding of Prince Harry and Megan Markle’s and their butter-cream wedding cake choice confirms this trend.

We have made lots of butter-cream wedding cakes, but perhaps butter-cream and fresh flowers are not the best combination!

The main concern is that butter-cream is quite soft, and can become even softer during hot weather.

The use of fresh flowers can also be tricky, as many flowers are non edible and some may actually be dangerous!

Here is a short list of flowers that are poisonous to humans, including Hydrangea and Lily of the Valley!

Advice of Poisonous Flowers.

If poisonous flowers come into contact with the butter-cream, there is a risk to any-one eating that piece of cake…

(Obviously, elderflowers are completely safe (if not treated with insecticides etc.) so no worries there.)

Butter-Cream Wedding Cake- A practical Alternative

We really do understand that many brides and grooms have a detailed vision for their country style or rustic wedding. This may well involve a wedding cake with a butter-cream coating. In the spring or autumn, this option makes perfect sense, but there can be some difficulties in the summer.

Temperatures (even in Scotland) have reached over 30 degrees- in these temperatures, butter-cream is prone to softening and possibly even melting!

We have created a perfect solution!

The cake shown here is decorated with a (slightly) softened and pallatable Royal Iced finish, thoroughly heat-stable but still with the rustic look.

The wedding cake shown here is a four-tier round stacked design, with layers of gypsophilia and a domed cake topper.

We had some concerns about the problems with butter-cream cakes combined with fresh flowers, and put our thinking caps on. We have designed a wedding cake which brings together the lemon and elderflower themes in a different way!

We have coated the cake in a marbled finish with a blend of white and lemon sugar-paste, and decorated the cake with a spray of sugar-crafted elderflowers and leaves. The ‘Harry and Meghan’ alternative wedding cake we have designed and shown below is quite small, but can be upscaled to suit a larger wedding.

The photo below shows a four-tier Wedding cake with ridged butter-cream in a white finish, with burlap ribbons with lace overlay, topped with a spray of fresh thistles and cream roses.
The fresh flowers are in a pad and do not come into contact with the cake, and can be easily removed.
